Awareness

Updated: Jul 11, 2022

What is awareness? - Awareness is untainted, unfettered and non- conceptual. It is not intellectualizing but just a bear recognition. It sees things as they are without attaching any interpretations or labels. It is the light that sheds darkness. It can see everything clearly and yet not become it. Because it doesn't become it, it is also free from it. It is a clear knowing which can see all the concepts and the arising of greed, pride, envy and other states from these concepts. While it's always available in the background, we can't access it as we get caught up in the heat of the moment. The moment we access it, it creates disentanglement. Everything can be seen only as parts and a conditional arising. Awareness can't be intellectualized. It can be cultivated through systematic practice. In meditation practice, the practitioner starts developing some awareness of the touch of the in-breath and out-breath. One can then understand that this bare recognition doesn't need any language or concepts. It simply is. So it is not a gush of energy or euphoria but a steady stream. In the presence of awareness, everything can be seen clearly without any further need to justify it. So awareness is freedom.
